Effingham County Real Estate
Created in 1777 during the American Revolution and named after Lord Effingham, an Englishman and proponant of colonists’ rights, Effingham is one of Georgia’s original counties. Effingham is bordered to the west by the lower basin of the Ogeechee River, to the south by the coastal basin of the Ogeehee, to the north by the Savannah River, and to the east by Chatham County.
In the beginning, the economy was primarily agriculturally based with Irish and sweet potatoes being the bulk of the produce. Around the beginning of the 21st century, the tremendous growth of the Georgia ports spurred a high demand for industrial developement. Along with a robust economy for Coastal Georgia as a whole, Effingham County has benefited greatly from the paper industry, nearby military installations, aerospace industry, and a generally diverse manufacturing base.
Many choose to make Effingham County home because of its proximity to Savannah, the airport, Gulfstream, and other industries. Having one of the preferred public-school systems in the area, recreational activities for adults and children alike, and a great mix of rural and small town settings are only a few of the reasons Effingham is one of the fastest growing counties.
